A Little Bit About Me

I was born and raised in New York City, and influenced by the tremendous variety of art, museums, and experiences the city has to offer. My aunt and uncle were graphic designers. When they came in to visit, we always took a trip to the Museum of Modern Art. I remember the first time I saw Monet’s Water Lillies at the Museum of Modern Art. Monet’s use of color, shape, and space just took my breath away! My older sister, a science teacher, took me to the Natural History Museum and New York Ballet, and my older brother took me to the Mets baseball games.

Fast forward many years, traveling throughout the country led me to beautiful San Diego. I traded the Mets for the Padres, but still maintained my love of art. Teaching was always in my blood. I love working with high school students. They inspire me as much as I hope I inspire them. I started working with computers as the photography and yearbook publications teacher at Mt. Miguel High School. I found my true love, my husband Dan, and “happily ever after.”

When the photography position became availalble at Grossmont High School, where I had student-taught years before, I transferred over. I incorporated units in the new digital imaging (this was still in the early nineties!) in my photography class curriculum. When the Grossmont High School old metalshop was converted into the Carl Perkins computer lab, I had the opportunity to create a course dedicated to the new digital media, and that’s how the Digital Arts classes came into being. East County ROP provides the funding and support to allow us to continue to grow and develop into the fantastic program we now have. Digital Arts is now taught at several schools in our district.

Dan and I live in East County with our two cats, Birdie and Strawberry. We love to travel, garden and grow some great tomatoes! Dan shares my love of the arts. I am a photographer, and incorporating my photographs with other media, from digital, to paint and printmaking. My art has been selected for a variety of competitions and exhibitions in San Diego as well as galleries in other areas of the country. The San Diego Art Institute, in conjunction with the San Diego Museum of Natural History’s Dead Sea Scrolls exhibition, is presenting The Contemporary Scroll: Visual Explorations by Contemporary Artists, and my mixed media triptych, View to the Past, was selected for this exhibit.

I love teaching and sharing my love of art. What a great combination. I teach what I love! Am I lucky or what!!
