Do your photographs tell a story?
Students learn to see photographically through an exploration of the basic tools, techniques and aesthetics of digital photography, with an emphasis on the creative use of camera controls, exposure, digital imaging software, and an awareness of the critical issues in contemporary photography.
Students discover that the camera is as much a vehicle of personal expression as a brush on canvas, learning how to see the world through the camera, and developing a
language of photography as a visual communications medium.


Photography Class Cameras~
Parents, the following photos show the type of cameras we use in the photography class. These class cameras are available for student use, and with parental consent, students may check out cameras for two days at a time. All cameras loaned out to students come in camera bags with camera batteries, battery charger,  and a memory card. If you chose to purchase a camera for your student (this is NOT required!!) to use in the photography class, camera used for class assignments must have manual controls like the cameras shown in the pictures below. Nikon, Canon, Panasonic, and Sony are some brands that make point and shoot cameras with manual controls. Manual controlled cameras have the dial at the top with the letters M for Manual, A for Aperture priority, S (or T on Canon brands) for Shutter Priority, and P for Program,  so students can control movement, and depth of field. Digital Single Lens Reflex cameras (DSLRs) are the larger cameras that can use a variety of lenses, and also have manual controls. See photos below:
